Why are we fundraising?

May 7th, 2014

The current Further Education Unit (F.E.) at Pear Tree is housed in a bungalow opposite the main entrance to the school. The ‘bungalow’ had previously been a garage and had been extended to create 3 small teaching rooms that are no longer fit for purpose. There are currently 14 students aged 16-19 in the Further Education Unit at Pear Tree but not all 14 students can be accommodated in the ‘bungalow’ at the same time because none of the rooms is large enough.

In 2013 the school was given the opportunity to redesign and refurbish Kirkham Hall at the rear of the school to create fit for purpose 21st Century facilities. The hall is very tired and dated and not at all attractive.

The redevelopment of Kirkham Hall into accessible post-16 facilities will cost approximately £370,000. Currently our funds will pay for half of the total refurbishment cost which means we are actively seeking donations to help us achieve the full cost. With sufficient further funds we would also like to redesign the external areas to create outside leisure space for the students who don’t currently have the benefit of such a luxury!
